Des Cahill


Chief Executive Officer

Des Cahill brings extensive executive-level experience in marketing, sales and operations from some of America's best-known technology companies - Apple Computer America Online and Netscape - and from some successful startups - Autonomy, BridgeSpan and eFax.com. Cahill is responsible for all company operations at Habeas and is a member of the board of directors. He is a frequent speaker and noted industry expert on email authentication, reputation and delivery related issues.

Immediately prior to joining Habeas, Cahill was chief marketing officer at BridgeSpan, a Benchmark-Sequoia backed real estate services firm, where he was in charge of all marketing, business development and corporate development activities. Cahill was also founder and principal of Element Group, a strategic sales and marketing consultancy working both with startups and major players in Silicon Valley.

Cahill received his MBA from Apple University/San Jose University and his bachelor of arts degree in economics from Union College in Schenectady, New York.

Philip Smith


Chief Financial Officer
Philip Smith brings to Habeas his significant experience as Chief Financial Officer with venture-backed private companies such as UPEK, the leading provider of biometric security solutions to the notebook computer market, and Moai Technologies, a developer of eCommerce software around procurement, trading exchanges and sell-side auctions. In addition he has had extensive public company experience in senior financial and business development positions with N.E.T. and with Tandem Computers and previously worked in public accounting with Touche Ross, a predecessor firm of Deloitte & Touche.

Smith's professional background includes implementation of comprehensive financial staffing, planning, cost controls and systems, human resources, IT, legal, tax and facilities functions. He has significant hands-on international operational experience in the U.S., Asia, Europe and Latin America. He also has raised over $80m in venture funding from significant financial and strategic investors.

Smith is a CPA in California and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He graduated with a degree in Physics from Imperial College of Science and Technology (London University) and is also an Associate of the Royal College of Science.

Chuck Swenberg


Vice President, Sales & Business Development
Chuck Swenberg has a successful track record of formulating and implementing business-development and sales-channel strategies for emerging enterprise and internet software companies. At both eFax, where he headed up business development, and Autonomy, where led business development and sales efforts, Swenberg helped create enormous benefits for his companies from the stage of product inception through revenue and customer expansion.

Swenberg has also held various leadership roles at Apple Computer including, product and channel planning, business development and sales. He holds a BS in Operations Research & Industrial Engineering from Cornell University and a MS in Engineering from University of California, Berkeley.

Bill Hunt


Vice President, Engineering
Bill Hunt is a Silicon Valley technology veteran, having served as Vice President of Engineering, Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Operations for several leading software companies. Prior to joining Habeas, Hunt was instrumental in founding or building four start-ups in the VPN, firewall and vulnerability assessment and application management sectors — with two of those companies being acquired for approximately $190 million each. Earlier in his career, Hunt also developed important product lines at Novell and has 12 patents to his credit.
