The Habeas SafeList Monitor is an application that is part of the Email Monitor suite of utilities. The Habeas SafeList Monitor provides statistics on the use of the Habeas SafeList by receivers. The Habeas SafeList Monitor provides data analysis tools which will allow senders to identify which receivers are querying the Habeas SafeList. The Habeas SafeList Monitor demonstrates the value to senders of being added to the Habeas SafeList.
The information provided by the Habeas Safelist Monitor must be used with some caution. The Habeas SafeList Monitor only reflects a subset of total Habeas SafeList usage. For example, sending a message to 10,000 recipients at an ISP with an email server using the Habeas SafeList will result in only a single query of the Habeas SafeList. The same result would be produced if messages were sent to 1,000 or 100,000 recipients. Some recipients keep a copy of the Habeas SafeList locally, and hits against a locally maintained copy of the Habeas SafeList are not indicated on the Habeas SafeList Monitor at all. Accordingly, the Habeas SafeList Monitor presents only a general measure of the effectiveness of the Habeas SafeList.
The Habeas SafeList Monitor may be accessed by one of two methods. Upon first logging in, a user is presented with the Email Monitor Dashboard. The Habeas SafeList Monitor is the pane in the top left corner. It will appear as a map. Users also may reach the Email Monitor Dashboard, and thus the Habeas SafeList Monitor, by clicking on the "Dashboard" tab appearing on the secondary navigation row of each Email Monitor page.
The Habeas SafeList Monitor presents data in both geographic and tabular format. By default, the Habeas SafeList Monitor displays data in a geographic format, and shows only the Habeas SafeList queries that took place during the previous week. A drop-down menu located just above the Habeas SafeList Monitor permits selection of a three-day or one-month view instead of the default one-week view. Simply click on the drop-down menu and select the desired time frame.
When the Dashboard first appears, a small pop-up will appear in the Habeas SafeList Monitor pane which states the total number of Habeas SafeList queries during the preceding month, along with a list of the five receivers that queried the Habeas SafeList most often. Click the button labeled Close at the bottom of the pop-up in order to clear the pop-up. The pop-up closes automatically after one minute has elapsed.
The pop-up includes a second button labeled Show All. Clicking this button causes an enlarged view of the map to appear along with a SafeList Details table which includes more details about a receiver's use of the Habeas SafeList. The expanded perspective provides the network view for the previously selected dates. This table will be discussed in more detail below.
After the pop-up has been closed, the map will display additional markers to reflect the geographic distribution of Habeas SafeList queries. Each marker is labeled with a percentage figure. The percentage reflects the number of queries for a specific region divided by the total number of Habeas SafeList queries for the selected region and time period. Hovering the cursor over one of these markers will cause it to expand to include the region for which data is provided, and the query percentage. At the end of the line of this marker is a pair of arrows. Clicking on the arrows causes the marker to expand, showing the specific number of queries made from that region, as well as the percentage of the total number of Habeas SafeList queries for that region and time period.
Another way to obtain an enlarged view of the Habeas SafeList Monitor is by clicking the "i" in the title bar of the Habeas SafeList Monitor pane. The enlarged map provides access to more detailed information about Habeas SafeList queries, and hovering the cursor over a marker will cause more detailed information to appear.
The enlarged view of the Habeas SafeList Monitor provides additional options which allow for more particularized views of the query data. To the right of the drop-down menu used to select the time period, is a drop-down menu which defaults to "World". Clicking on this drop-down menu presents a list of regions and countries from which Habeas SafeList queries originated. Selecting an item from this drop-down menu causes the map to refocus on the selected region, and updated markers will appear. By using these filters, the data which supports the markers is recalculated to include only the narrowed focus.
If relevant and more particularized data is available, a new drop-down menu labeled "All Regions" becomes active. Selecting an item from this drop-down menu causes the map to refocus on the selected region, and updated markers will appear. If relevant and more particularized data is available, a new drop-down menu labeled 'All Cities' will become active. Click on this drop-down menu to select a specific city. For example, in order to obtain information about Habeas SafeList queries from San Francisco, California, select "United States" from the "World" drop-down menu, then select "California" from the "All Regions" drop-down menu, and then select "San Francisco" from the "All Cities" drop down menu. Each drop-down menu lists only those regions for which data is available.
The SafeList Details table appears below the map. The SafeList Details table provides a tabular representation of the information presented in the geographic map. By default, the table is organized so that the networks making the greatest percentage of queries are sorted in descending order. Clicking the heading on the "Query %" column will cause the networks to be listed in ascending order. Any column in the SafeList Details table may be sorted by clicking on the column heading. The ordering may be reversed by clicking on the column heading a second time.
The order of the columns in the SafeList Details table may be changed by the user. See the knowledgebase entry on "How do I change the order of the columns in the Habeas SafeList Monitor SafeList Detail table?" for additional information about using this feature.
The following information may be obtained with the Habeas SafeList Monitor:
Additional information, available by using the export data feature of Habeas SafeList Monitor:
Data can be exported from the Habeas SafeList Monitor. The Habeas SafeList Monitor offers two formats in which to obtain data: XML and CSV for use in a spreadsheet application such as Microsoft Excel. See the knowledgebase entry on "How do I export data from the Habeas SafeList Monitor?" for additional information.
A faint downwards-pointing arrow appears near the upper right corner of the Habeas SafeList Monitor pane in the Dashboard. Hover the cursor over the arrow, and four buttons appear in an expanding pallet. Moving from left to right, the first icon, a magnifying glass, causes the SafeList Summary page to appear when the icon is clicked.
The second icon from the left is labeled "XML" and clicking this button will cause the standard Windows dialog box to appear which asks if the user wishes to save the data to a file or open it in an application. Choose the option to open the data in an Excel workbook or save the XML file to your hard disk
The third icon from the left is labeled "CVS" and clicking this button will cause the standard Windows dialog box to appear which asks if the user wishes to save the data to a file or open it in an application. Choose the option to open the data in an Excel workbook.
The fourth icon is a question mark. Clicking this button takes the user to the Habeas knowledgebase.
The Habeas SafeList Monitor can present results for a three-day period, a one-week period and a one-month period. By default, the Habeas SafeList Monitor shows results from the previous week. Immediately above the top left corner of the SafeList Monitor pane on the Dashboard is a small drop-down menu. Click on the arrow and then select the preferred time period; choices include three days, one week and one month.
By default, the Habeas SafeList Monitor SafeList Detail table displays networks according to their query percentages; receivers with the highest query percentages are at the top of the table. The Habeas SafeList Monitor allows users to sort any column in ascending or descending order. Click on the criterion identified at the top of a column in the SafeList detail table and the data will then be sorted according to that criterion. Clicking the header a second time causes the data to be sorted in the opposite direction. Please note that these changes are not persistent and the default setting will be applied when the user next opens Habeas SafeList Monitor.
The columns in the Habeas SafeList Monitor SafeList Detail table can be rearranged to suit the user's preferences. Click the heading at the top of the column to be moved and keep the cursor pressed. Then drag the column to its new location. A vertical blue bar will appear to show where the column will be inserted. Please note that these changes are not persistent and the default setting will be applied when the user next opens Habeas SafeList Monitor.
The size of the columns in the Habeas SafeList Monitor SafeList Detail table can be rearranged to suit the user's preferences. Place the cursor in the column heading on the right or left border of the column to be resized. The cursor will change to indicate that the cursor is in the right place for resizing columns. Click and then drag the cursor to the left or right in order to set the new column width. Please note that these changes are not persistent and the default settings will be applied when the user next opens Habeas SafeList Monitor.
The percentage number provided in the markers is an aggregated number based on the number of queries of all receivers located within the region being analyzed.
The percentage information in the SafeList Detail table is based on the number of queries made by a particular network of a specific IP address divided by the total number of queries made by all receivers with respect to the region being analyzed.
If no data is presented in the Habeas SafeList Monitor pane, first try using a different time frame. If no data is available in the one-week view, it may be available in the one-month view.
Please remember that the Habeas SafeList Monitor depends on email volume, so if no significant campaigns have been sent recently, users may not see much activity in the Habeas SafeList Monitor.
If no data is presented after taking into consideration the points mentioned in the two preceding paragraphs, please contact the Habeas Customer Service department by calling 650-694-3397 or sending an email to support@habeas.com.
